New Year - New Projects and more on the Horizon

Seems like everyone takes stock at the end of the year.  I'm no different. As I have been thinking about this blog entry over the last few weeks, I looked over my calendar from last year.  Not that I'm a gig counting kind of guy, but at the end of the year, I do like to know.

With band gigs, orchestra jobs, fill in work and studio time... well it was a bunch.  Well over 100 services.  But that's not what excited me about this count.  As I was looking over the list of gigs and such, snapshots of memories…

Great weekend of music for sure!

I don't often point out a specific weekend of music, or gigs or concerts... but this weekend was spectacular for a couple of reasons....

First of all, I got to play jazz ... to a packed house.... with great players... in Lynchburg.    For you local folks, let that sink in.

The Eric Hollandsworth Quartet, featuring Dr. Chris Magee on trumpet, Bill Purcell on Drums, and Lew Taylor on Keys, played one of my favorite venues -Jimmy's on the James.  Jimmy's is known for its history of supporting live jazz and we…Read more

Some Goings On

It's been a great, albeit hot summer - both weather wise and musically.  I wanted to take an opportunity to give the ubiquitous shout outs to the guys and gals I have the pleasure to work with - the guys in Long Strange Night , my own personal Blues Brothers, the Tommy Cox Band,  C Hewat Music (formally Season3),  all the katz and kittens from the Sway Katz Big Band, and all the other musicians that I get a chance to work with here and there. Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra Beethoven concert

Academy of the Arts, 600 Main St, Lynchburg, VA

You will want to dance right out of your seat during this concert of dance-inspired classical favorites. Beethoven seventh symphony was once called “the apotheosis of the dance“, and remains one of the most joyous, exuberant, and rhythmically vital pieces of orchestral music. In addition, the orchestra plays William Grant Still’s Danzas de Panama and a suite from Igor Stravinsky’s humorously bouyant ballet, Pulcinella. This will be a ride you don’t want to miss!

JUST ADDED – SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST! We are pleased to announce that this concert will also include a performance of Zigeunerweisen by Sarasate, featuring guest artist Ava Pakiam. This 13 year-old violin prodigy made her solo debut at Carnegie Hall at the age of 8, and has performed with numerous orchestras throughout the U.S. She is currently a student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
